Vote For a New Engine (1922)

SPECIAL ELECTION NEXT TUESDAY
PROPERTY OWNERS WILL BE ASKED TO APPROPRIATE $10,000 TO PURCHASE NEW FIRE APPARATUS NEEDED TO REPLACE PRESENT MACHINE.

Larchmonter Times, July 27, 1922

A special election will be held on Tuesday August 1st from 4 to 8 P.M. for the purpose of voting either for or against a proposition to raise $10,000 by bond issue for the purpose of purchasing a combination pump, chemical and hose motor fire fighting apparatus. Only property owners will be allowed to vote in the election, the polling place for which will be in the Village Hall.

It has developed that the present hose wagon if continued in active service requires repairs which would cost $4,000, but if the apparatus is kept in reserve repairs to the extent of about $500 would be made. The present Metropolitan Steamer fire engine is also antiquated, but it can be sold for $2,500. The village officials are of the opinion that a combination apparatus as suggested above is required to replace the other apparatus which will be a saving to the village of about $4,000 in repairs, the annual salary of one man at $1,500, also the expense of coal which would amount to perhaps $120.
